Biography

I was Born in Stockholm Sweden on May 21, 1964. I Started playing hockey at the age of 8 in an organization called Brommapojkarna. I also played soccer for the same organization and I was pretty good, but I always preferred hockey. I changed organizations when I was about 12 years old and went to Stocksunds I.F. There I met a great coach named Werner Person. I learned a great deal from this man and I have him to thank for much of my success during the years I have been playing.

When I was 18 years old I went on to a team called the Djurgårdens I.F. and there I met another (in my mind) great coach named Leif Boork. He helped me become a more complete player. That same year (1983) we won the Swedish championship. About two years later Leif Boork was the coach of the Swedish National team where I played my first World Championship in Prague. We did not do so well, but it was a great experience. In 1986 in Moscow we took the silver medal, and 1987 in Wienna we took the gold.

That summer in 1987 I negotiated with the Quebec Nordiques and got an NHL contract. I left everything behind me and crossed the big ocean with my girlfriend Maria (who I married in 1990). I got traded to the New Jersey Devils December of '88 and with them we went on to win the Stanley Cup in 1995. That is the best moment in my hockey career so far. I got traded to The Calgary Flames in February of '96.

In 2001 I went back to New jersey devils and won the Stanley Cup again in 2003. The 05/06 season was the last I played for them and my last season as player.

My next step is to work as an assistant coach for New Jersey Devils the 07/08 season.
